Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to have a notary bond?

The State of Hawaii requires notaries to have a Notary Bond to protect the public from negligence or dishonesty related to acts by a Notary.

Does a notary bond take the place of insurance?

No. Notary bonds only protect the public. Notaries are responsible for paying judgments and reimbursing the bonding company. For personal protection, a Notary may purchase Errors & Omissions Insurance.

If I am a Notary in Hawaii and move to another state, does my bond cover me?

No. Each state has their own laws, rules and procedures for becoming a Notary and there is no uniform notary process at this time. In addition, your Notary Bond through A-1 Bonding is only good in Hawaii.
